Minerals of Nigeria
Prof. Adeyinka Adekoya’s new book on Nigeria’s Mineral Resources has come at the best time for our country, Nigeria, whose unstable economy is largely dependent on Oil and Gas and its poorly explored solid mineral resources. The book will provide the much-needed access to geological information and data relating to these resources.
I am convinced that the content of the book is crucial for the exploration and exploitation of minerals, activities in which our beloved country Nigeria has failed woefully in the past years. If, by contrast, the book is used well by astute Nigerians, the knowledge gained may eventually lead to the socio-economic reactivation and redemption of our country and reduce our total dependence on other countries of the world for our industrial mineral material needs.

The acute shortage of textbooks on Nigeria’s mineral resources has posed challenges to geoscience students and professionals interested in the field of mineral deposits. Relevant textbooks dealing with the various aspects of the geology and economic mineral resources of Nigeria are few and to my knowledge none is exclusively written to deal with the metallic and industrial minerals. Adekoya’s book on the “Metallic and Industrial Minerals of Nigeria” could not have come out at a better time. I therefore personally congratulate the author for achieving this goal of packaging an up-to-date information into this book borne out of his accumulated experience from the time periods of serving as practising geologist in the Economic Geology section of the Geological Survey of Nigeria and several years of field work and laboratory studies with students and associates in the Department of Applied Geology of the Federal University of Technology, Akure.
